Abstract
A hardware-software complex for veterinarian controlling in equestrian sport was developed and successfully tested under
real-life conditions. The complex consists of equipment for recording electrocardiogram signals (ECG), for recording up
three-dimensional accelerometrical signals for a center of mass and specialized software. This equipment allows an eective
control of equine heart parameters during training and sport events. Usage of empirical modes method is considered for animal
ECG processing during active movements. It is de ned that eective ECG processing could be a chieved with 9-10 modes
decomposition of a 5 second ECG fragment. It is sucient to eectively determine the ECG isoelectric line (isoline) drift and edge
eects in uence is insigni cant. Usage of this method could help in reducing the isoline drift which emerges from animal
movement. It is shown that this method is more ecient than fast Fourier transformation and wavelet-transformation. An
adaptive band-stop lter described in the paper has proved to be the most ecient in recording movement artifacts. Field
experiments with hardware-software complex was made at the premises of the horse breeding the Nalchik oce of the All-
Russian Research Institute of Horse Breeding (VNIIK) in Kabardino-Balkarian republic, where training of Kabardian breed is
exercised. It is shown that ECG of a horse during speedy trot can be automatically analyzed. During the ECG processing ECG
contour and statistical parameters of heart rate variability were analyzed. A hardware-software complex developed here can
eectively contro l the heart activity parameters of a horse during training and sports events.
